12 days covering Kenya’s best wildlife areas with four nights at Mara Maisha Camp in the Masai Mara at the end. You move through Amboseli, Samburu, and Ol Pejeta before stopping at Lake Naivasha, then finishing with four full days in the Mara. The Naivasha stop breaks up the journey well and adds a different experience before the final push to the reserve.
Kibo Safari Camp at Amboseli is a solid property with good Kilimanjaro views. Elephant Bedroom Camp in Samburu sits right on the river. Sweetwaters Serena covers the rhino viewing at Ol Pejeta. Sawela Lodge at Naivasha gives you a quiet night by the lake. Mara Maisha Camp finishes the trip with four nights in the reserve.
Accommodations:
Driving Time: 4-5 hours
Meals: Lunch & Dinner
Leave Nairobi early heading southeast. Kilimanjaro appears on the horizon on clear mornings before you reach the gate. Arrive at Kibo Safari Camp around lunchtime, the camp well positioned for both elephant and mountain views. The late afternoon game drive covers open plains and swamp areas where large herds move against the Kilimanjaro backdrop.
Dinner and overnight stay at Kibo Safari Camp.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Morning and afternoon drives. Start early for the best Kilimanjaro light. Your guide knows the elephant families well and can often identify individuals by tusk shape and ear markings. Observation Hill gives a good view over the swamps below. The afternoon focuses on predators and the swamp edges where species concentrate around the permanent water.
Dinner and overnight stay at Kibo Safari Camp.
Driving Time: 6-7 hours
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Long drive north through Nairobi and into dry northern Kenya. Start early with a lunch stop along the way. The landscape shifts considerably once you drop off the central highlands. Arrive at Elephant Bedroom Camp on the Ewaso Nyiro River in the afternoon with time for a short evening drive introducing you to the northern species.
Dinner and overnight stay at Elephant Bedroom Camp.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Morning and afternoon drives in the reserve. Start early along the river for predator activity. Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, and Beisa oryx are the northern specials. The birdlife includes several species found nowhere else in Kenya. Afternoon drives regularly produce leopard sightings along the riverbanks. Samburu has a quiet, remote character unlike the southern parks.
Dinner and overnight stay at Elephant Bedroom Camp.
Driving Time: 3-4 hours
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Head south through Nanyuki to Ol Pejeta. Arrive at Sweetwaters Serena Camp before lunch. The afternoon drive focuses on rhinos. Ol Pejeta holds East Africa's largest black rhino population alongside healthy white rhino numbers and the last two northern white rhinos on earth. Lions, elephants, and buffalo fill the rest of the conservancy.
Dinner and overnight stay at Sweetwaters Serena Camp.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Full day with morning and afternoon drives. Early morning is best for rhino activity before the heat builds. Your guide positions you well for both species across different habitat. Optional chimpanzee sanctuary visit in the afternoon. General game viewing continues through the conservancy's varied terrain of grassland, riverine forest, and bush.
Dinner and overnight stay at Sweetwaters Serena Camp.
Driving Time: 2-3 hours
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Short drive southwest to Lake Naivasha in the Rift Valley. Arrive at Sawela Lodge before lunch. A change of pace from the previous days. The afternoon offers a boat ride on the lake getting close to hippos and large waterbird flocks including pelicans and fish eagles. Crescent Island nearby offers walking alongside zebra, wildebeest, and giraffe without vehicles.
Dinner and overnight stay at Sawela Lodge.
Driving Time: 5-6 hours
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Drive west across the Mau Escarpment into Maasai country. Arrive at Mara Maisha Camp in the afternoon. After a week of varied parks and conservancies the Mara's open scale and wildlife density are immediately striking. Time for a short evening drive before four full days of game viewing begin tomorrow.
Dinner and overnight stay at Mara Maisha Camp.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
First full day with morning and afternoon drives. Leave at dawn when predators are active. Lions are easy to find. Cheetahs work the open plains and leopards appear along the rivers. The Mara River holds hippos and large crocodiles year-round. Between July and October the wildebeest migration crossings happen along the river, timing never guaranteed but worth watching for.
Dinner and overnight stay at Mara Maisha Camp.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Second full day. Your guide adjusts the plan based on your interests. Option for a full-day drive with picnic lunch for maximum time with wildlife. Optional dawn balloon flight over the plains if arranged in advance. The Mara is large enough that you cover new ground each day without repeating the same areas.
Dinner and overnight stay at Mara Maisha Camp.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Third full day. Four nights at Mara Maisha Camp lets you properly settle in and build on what you have seen. Your guide tracks specific animals across multiple outings. Optional Maasai village visit in the afternoon. The last evening drive gives you one final look at the reserve before heading back to Nairobi tomorrow.
Dinner and overnight stay at Mara Maisha Camp.
Driving Time: 5-6 hours
Meals: Breakfast & Lunch
Final morning game drive before breakfast, then check out and drive back to Nairobi. Arrive by mid to late afternoon. Drop off at your Nairobi hotel or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for evening departures.
