Two full days in the reserve rather than one. That extra day is what lets you go somewhere different on the second morning instead of covering the same ground twice. The Mara runs to about 1,500 square kilometres, so there is plenty you will not have seen.
Zebra Plains Mara Camp sits up on rising ground with the plains laid out below. The hillside tents catch the breeze, which you appreciate in February. Food is decent and the guides know the reserve properly rather than just driving to whatever is on the radio.
Accommodation:
Driving Time: 5-6 hours
Meals: Lunch & Dinner
Leaving Nairobi around seven gets you clear of the morning traffic. The road climbs out of the city to the escarpment viewpoint, then drops into the valley and runs west through Narok. Tarmac most of the way now, which was not the case a few years ago.
You reach camp in time for lunch. The afternoon drive is more about getting your eye in than covering distance. Giraffe, zebra, warthog, and impala are everywhere on the open ground. If a pride is lying up nearby your guide will know about it.
Dinner and overnight stay at Zebra Plains Mara Camp.

Early start heading towards the open plains where cheetah hunt. They need clear ground to run on, so the short-grass areas are where you look. Three or four brothers hunting together is a common sight here and they are usually active in the first two hours of light.
Elephant and buffalo fill out the morning. Back for lunch and a rest, then out again late afternoon. Leopard are around the riverine trees along the Talek and the Mara, though seeing one takes some luck and a guide who knows which trees they favour.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Today you can take a packed lunch and stay out rather than driving back at midday. It costs you the rest but gains four hours in the reserve, and it lets you push west towards the Mara River and the Tanzanian border where the vehicle traffic thins right out.
Hippo pools along the river are worth an hour on their own. Crocodile lie up on the sandbanks, some of them enormous. Between July and October the wildebeest gather here in their thousands waiting to cross, though nobody can tell you when they will go.

Driving Time: 5-6 hours
Meals: Breakfast & Lunch
A last drive before breakfast, usually somewhere close to camp so you are back in good time. Then pack up and head for Nairobi.
Lunch on the road, and you should be in the city mid to late afternoon. Drop off wherever suits, hotel or airport. If you are flying out the same night there is time in hand.
